MINI COUNTRYMAN Product Design Competition

This is a fun competition and do not worry, you do not need to be transportation designer to get in. Just having a cool idea would be enough.

According to MINI :”This year, MINI will be adding a long-awaited fourth member to the MINI family: the MINI Countryman. This brand new crossover model combines typical MINI design with the enhanced size and all-wheel drive of a modern Sports Activity Vehicle. It’s also the first model in the MINI range with four side doors and a wide-opening rear lid.

The MINI Countryman follows the MINI tradition of creative use of space with new clever solutions like the unique feature, the MINI Center Rail.

The MINI Center Rail connects the front with the rear of the vehicle, in both form and function. It runs between the left and right seats, providing a platform to stash lots of favorite items conveniently and securely. For example, it can serve as a cable-management system that lets you charge your mp3 player, cell phone, and other electronic items, easily and without a mess of cords.”

So Here is the Competition:

  1. Create a 2D concept for a feature to be added to the MINI Center Rail of the MINI Countryman.
  2. The design can be made out of any type of still media (photographic, illustration, graphic, etc.) as long as you have the rights to all design elements that you use.
  3. You must use one of the required template layers as the basis of your design
  4. Do NOT include logos.

Red Dot Concept Design Competition 2010

For every designer, it is a good idea to get in to a design competition. Red Dot Concept Design held every year for 54 years and it is one of the most prestigious design award around the world.
One of the great benefit about Red Dot is “the designer is informed about 3 months ahead of the public when the design won the award. This allows enough time for the designer to file for protection. If a design does not win the award, it is kept secret, as the adjudication is a strictly confidential and private event.”

Also the cost is pretty good for an individual designer which is only 50 Euros as an early bird and it gets as high as 100 for late fees, compare to IDSA which is $350 to get in and extra $150 to get judges after being finalist!
